Does anyone else in this country have issues with the way our children are being educated. When you enrol a child at school you expect that a certain amount of care will be taken to maintain their safety. Over the last eight years I have watched my child go through his school life and get to high school only to find that once there the teachers care about his safety about as much as I care to watch the latest Dr Who episode (just so you know I hate Dr who with a passion). His work is below what I consider to be adequate for high school and while he has responsibility to do his work to the best of his ability it is their job to teach, guide and mentor and to work in conjunction with parents to ensure that he is ready for the either university or the real world.

Living in Christchurch has brought another set of issues with the Education Minister in her wisdom shutting many schools and forcing others to merge. However, this does not excuse the lack of emphasis of learning in schools.

When did we ever say that we wanted our children to except mediocrity as the norm, never to reach, never to grow.

This country needs to really decide where we want our future to be and if we are prepared to let the law makers allow the degeneration of youth.

I do not necessarily agree with severe punishment but when your child is bullied to the point they make themselves ill to avoid school then there must be a bigger punishment then a referral or one day suspension.
